XX-one Sweater Class

Our first online, virtual class begins Wednesday, January 17 at 6:00 PM.  
The class is a project class that will meet a minimum of 4 times, January 17, January 24, February 7, and February 21, 2024.

ZOOM & In-Person

In addition to in-person attendance, Carole will be using Zoom to commicate plus multiple cameras to display swatches and documents.  
If you are taking the class remotely, you will log in to the Zoom class with audio and video.  At times everyone's audio will be muted to cut out any background noise (dogs barking, phones ringing, etc.)  At other times, everyone wll join in for show and tell, discussion, and Q & A.  Prior to class, make sure you can use zoom and sign in with video and audio.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Project Description:
         XX-one Sweater designed by Hinterm Stein

Stylish and classy at the same time. 
Seamless, topdown and fun to knit, this cardigan features a well-fitting shoulder-construction and has many options for you to knit the perfectly fitting love-piece.
The XX-pattern knits up quickly - no cabling, no annoying increase-decrease-pattern.
3 options for the body shaping and 2 options for the length give you the choice for a well-fitting cardigan.

Materials for XX-one sweater:

• DK weight yarn (I made a size M2/L using Rowan's SoftYak DK. The front is L and the back is size M2.)
  (plus additional 145 yds for added length, if desired)

• Needles: Circular size 5, 6, 7, 8 (6 or 7 is most common)
• Accessories:
  Stitch Markers
  Scissors
  Tapestry needle
  5-6 Buttons (optional)

Materials for Class on January 17:

• Completed, washed and blocked Gauge Swatch (see below)
• Yarn to practice techniques with in DK or worsted weight yarn in light color for class swatches (not gauge swatch which must be knit in your sweater yarn.)
• Needles: Needles appropriate for class swatch yarn (DK - size 6-ish and worsted - size 8-ish)
• Accessories: Stitch Markers (several in different colors)
• Scissors
• A Couple of T-pins or straight pins
• Ruler or gauge marker

Homework (Gauge Swatch):

Prior to class 1 on January 17, knit, wash, and block a gauge swatch.

Instructions:

1. With your sweater yarn, CO 30 sts using any CO method.
2. Using size 5 needles, knit 2-3 inches in stockinette stitch (st st).
    With a tapestry needle, run a lifeline of contrasting color yarn through stitches on needle to deliniate size 5 section of knitting.
3. Using size 6 needles, knit 3 inches in stockinette stitch (st st).
    With a tapestry needle, run a lifeline of contrasting color yarn through stitches on needle to deliniate size 6 section of knitting.
4. Using size 7 needles, knit 3 inches in stockinette stitch (st st).
    With a tapestry needle, run a lifeline of contrasting color yarn through stitches on needle to deliniate size 7 section of knitting.
5. Using size 8 needles, knit 2-3 inches in stockinette stitch (st st).
    Bind off all stitches.
6.  Wash and Block Gauge Swatch.

• Fill sink with tepid (room temperature, baby bottle tempature, lukewarm) water
• Submerge swatch in water and let it sit 15-30 minutes to fully absorb water.
• Let water out of sink and VERY CAREFULLY remove most water from swatch.  Do Not twist, wring, or do anything that will stretch your swatch.
• Roll swatch in towel and roll up.  Squeeze towel (or stand on it) to remove more water. 
  You may have to repeat this step until swatch is damp, not wet.
• Lay swatch out to dry.  You may pin, but just patting it into place should work, also.

Don't worry about measuring your gauge swatch. We will learn to measure your swatch in class.
